I’m alive
not that anyone probably cares
not that anyone probably cares
I’ve got them moves like swagger: @Shizune
Bee was feeling pretty foolish headed over to the school nurse’s office. He’d tried to grab this huge box of scores of music from atop the high shelf in his classroom for his music class, and…
Bee’s rhymes and his…amusing incident made Shizune smile. A strange and almost ironic way to get hurt, though she feared that he might suffer from more than just a headache, he could have a concussion if it was hurting this badly. “Here, try this” she said, passing him his proper dosage of pills. “If all you’ve suffered is a headache, it should do the trick. But I’m worried you might have a concussion. Maybe you should lay down.”
“Well his death basically just screwed up my whole life. So when I found out he was alive I was pretty mad…. I mean, my mom killed herself because she thought he was dead. So I was basically on my own, because my Uncle never exactly… liked me, so he usually kicked me out when he got sick of me. And I was just alone a lot, which is why I don’t usually talk to people about my emotions, because I never had anyone before.” He already felt better talking about all of this. Although he might have said a little too much…
Shizune was shocked when she heard all this. She had had no idea that this child had such a tough life. That was too much for anyone to deal with in a lifetime. “I know you’ve probably heard this all before, but I’m really sorry for you. Someone like you should never have to go through anything like that. How does your dad feel about you now that you know he’s alive, if you don’t mind me asking? And I’m especially sorry to hear about your mother…I wish there was something I could do to help you.”
Neji shrugged. He had heard it all before, but only three or four times. He never really talked to anyone before Konoha High. “Well it happened, and I can’t change that. It was fate I guess.” He looked down at the floor. “I don’t even know if there was anything you could help with, if I wanted it… I’ve just gone through so much by myself, it’s weird having people there for me…. Does that even make sense?” He scratched his head, he probably sounded like an idiot, and almost regretted saying those things.
Her voice dropped to almost a whisper. “No, it does. I can understand going through things by yourself. I’ve been there too. But you know, having someone you can go to if you ever need to really does help, even if you never really end up talking to them. Just the feeling of knowing that there’s someone who cares…” She glanced at the floor. She probably sounded so silly to this boy, he’d been through much more than anyone else she knew…what a tragic past. “I’d like to be that for you. Someone you can trust.”
Neji leaned forward a little bit so he could hear what she was saying. He sighed, “I have maybe 3 people I can fully trust, my boyfriend, my cousin, and my best friend. And I barely see any of them…” He said the last part quietly and he looked down at his lap. He looked back up when he heard what Shizune said. “Wait, really? I mean, I want to trust you… I really do.. But it might take a little bit…” He felt bad for having to say that, but after everything in his life, it was hard to just randomly trust people.
“I understand” she placed her hand on his shoulder reassuringly. “It takes time to trust people. But…i just thought since you don’t seem to have a mother figure in your life right now, maybe you could use someone to be able to go to when you needed it…” She looked into his eyes. “And I know it’s not going to be easy for you but…I just wanted you to know that I’m here for you, okay?”
Neji was glad she understood, and didn’t take it too personally. He looked at his shoulder, not expecting her to place her hand there and gave a little smile. He slowly nodded in acknowledgement. He looked up and gave her a genuine smile. “You don’t how much that means to me…” He was grateful that he had other people to go to when he needed it, but he didn’t want to bother them for him.
She smiled back. She was glad that she had helped him, or at least done what she could to help him. “And don’t be afraid to come and talk to me, anytime. It’s no inconvenience for me. I don’t do all that much as a school nurse, just wait for kids who need a nap or a few pills. Someone to talk to is actually quite a treat for me, and I’m really glad you decided to stay and chat, Neji”

Shizune looked up at the strange man who had wandered into her office. Had he spoken in rhymes? “Hi there” she said, a smile appearing on her face. “So, headache then? What did you do to injure yourself? If you don’t mind my asking…” she inquired, as she searched through her bottles of medicine for the one that she thought would work the best.

Neji smiled at her response to him. “Thank you Shizune-san. I think you are a very kind person as well.” He said, returning the compliment. He looked up at her, “Did you want to talk about something in particular, or were you just looking for someone to talk too?” He knew what it was like to be alone, so he knew how she felt if she just wanted company for the day.
She blushed at Neji’s kind words. “I’m glad you think so” she looked off thoughtfully. “Well…there are things on my mind, as usual, but I don’t think it would be wise to share. I think the best thing for me right now is to just talk. As I’ve said, I’ve been lonely recently…but enough about me. What about you? Need any advice on anything or…anything on your mind?”
He nodded, respecting her privacy and whatnot. “I always have some stuff on my mind, I don’t usually talk about it though.” Maybe he should once in a while. Bottling emotions was never good for anyone. “And why are you lonely? Don’t you have friends you can hang out with?” He saw no reason why people wouldn’t like her, but if she really didn’t have anyone to be with, he would feel horrible, and this whole situation would just get awkward. He hoped that wouldn’t happen.
“Well, I don’t know, its just that I’ve felt so distant from everyone lately…they’re all so busy with their own lives…” she sighed. “Sorry for acting like this, I’m usually able to keep it contained just fine. But what’s on your mind, Neji? Keeping things to yourself is never good, and you can trust me. I’m technically not even allowed to repeat things I know about my patient- patient confidentiality exists for a reason after all.”
“Well there has to be some time they’re free. I mean, they can’t always be busy.” He shrugged, trying to help her the best way he could. “And just… family I guess. Everything is so confusing, and a lot has happened in just a few weeks. It’s just a lot to take in. I never knew that your life could change so quickly. For 10 years I thought my dad was dead, and he all of a sudden pops up in the hospital. I haven’t even fully got it through my head that he was actually alive this whole time.” He buried his face in his hands. He hated sharing what was on his mind, but hey, if she couldn’t share it, then what’s there to lose?
“I suppose…” she said. My problems seem so trivial in comparison to his she thought. “So, you say you’ve thought he was dead all this time, just to find out that he’s still alive? Well, I can see why that would shock you, but…shouldn’t that be considered good news? I mean, he’s not dead, you can be happy about that! Right?” she could understand why he was so shocked though, something like this must be nearly unbelievable. But she was really glad that this young boy was confiding in her like this. She knew how dangerous keeping your emotions inside could be, she’d had enough experience with that after all.

Don’t change who you are.: strong-of-heart-and-mind: Don’t change who you are.:…
Don’t change who you are.: @Shizune
It was near the end of his third class, and Neji was making his way down to the…
“Well, you should be all set, unless there’s something else that’s bothering you.” She knew he should be getting back to class, but she almost wished he could stay. She wanted someone to talk to, she was sick of always being alone. Not many people needed the school nurse for much more than medicine or scrapes and cuts, so to be honest she didn’t always feel too useful working in a school. “You should be fine though, and if you want, you can go back to class.” she said “but you don’t have to.”
Neji tilted his head a little in confusion. “I don’t have to go back to class?” Not that he was complaining about that or anything, he would love to skip class. He just wanted to know why. And wasn’t it her job to make sure they get better so they could get back to class? ‘Whatever…’ Who would skip out on the opportunity to skip class? Besides, Shizune was nice enough. Actually, she was his favorite nurse here. All the other ones were either boring, didn’t know what they were doing, or wanted no part in anything. She seemed like she actually enjoyed doing her job, added on to the fact that she knew what she was doing.
“Well, normally I’d send you back…but not today” she replied. “It’s just that you look pretty miserable with all your injuries, maybe you could use some time away from class…” she lied. “…Actually I think I just need some conversation. And you’re a nice kid. If anyone asks where you are, I’ll just tell them you were feeling sick and I thought it was a good idea for you to take a nap.”
Neji smiled at her response to him. “Thank you Shizune-san. I think you are a very kind person as well.” He said, returning the compliment.
